FinSim — practise on history, risk nothing
A simulated, paper-only sandbox. Replay a past market week and move a paper portfolio through it to study how a structure would have behaved — with no real money and no real trades. FinSim is part of Premium.
What it does
- Replay a real week. Load a historical market week from publicly-sourced data and step through it.
- Move a paper portfolio. Practise allocations with paper positions. Nothing connects to a brokerage and no real order is ever placed.
- Study the structure. See how a redundancy-first structure would have held up across the period — a learning read, not a forecast.

Frequently asked questions
What is FinSim?
FinSim is a simulated, paper-only research sandbox in the Obsidian Metrics Premium tier. It lets you replay historical market weeks and practise moving a paper portfolio through them, so you can study how a structure would have behaved without any real money at risk. Everything in FinSim is simulated. No trades are ever placed and no capital moves.
Is FinSim real trading?
No. FinSim is paper only. It uses historical, publicly-sourced data for study and practice. It does not connect to a brokerage, it never places a real order, and nothing you do in it moves real money. It is an educational simulator, not a trading account.
Which tier includes FinSim?
FinSim is part of the Premium tier. Premium is $29/mo direct from the website, or $19/mo at the member rate through the Obsidian Metrics community. This page previews FinSim; the full interactive sandbox opens inside a Premium account.
Does FinSim predict or promise returns?
No. A historical replay shows what already happened in a past period; it is not a forecast and past behaviour does not indicate future results. FinSim makes no income, yield, or return promise. It is a study tool. We are not financial advisors.
