Daily Market Update — September 19, 2026

September 19, 2026

Saturday note. US equities are closed today, so this is the verified state of play off Friday September 18's close, plus the crypto marks from the weekend itself.

Where things stand Equities (Friday's close, the last completed session): S&P 500 7,650.50, Nasdaq 26,522.54, Dow 51,682.64, Russell 2000 2,860.40. On the week: S&P 500 -0.08%, Nasdaq +0.72%, Dow -1.69%. Those are the levels to carry into the reopen. Crypto (trading through the weekend): Bitcoin near 81,063.72 dollars, +0.20% versus Friday; Ethereum near 2,626.87 dollars, +0.59% versus Friday. Crypto is the only one of these markets open today, so it carries the weekend's reaction on its own. Commodities (Friday's settle): WTI crude settled 100.30 dollars, gold 4,424.90 dollars. Energy is the fastest route from a headline to an inflation reading, which is why it leads this page. Rates: the 10-year Treasury yield finished near 5.00% on Friday.

What this means for your system A closed day is the cheapest time to look at your own numbers, because nothing you see can be acted on impulsively. The figures above are the starting levels for the reopen, not a forecast of it.

Two things worth doing today Reconcile the Obsidian Metrics Financial Tracker so the coming week starts from real numbers rather than last month's memory. Set one alert at a level that would actually change something you do. If a level would not change anything, leave it off.

Bottom line Equities (Friday's close, the last completed session): S&P 500 7,650.50, Nasdaq 26,522.54, Dow 51,682.64, Russell 2000 2,860.40. Crypto traded through the weekend; equities reopen Monday. Nothing on this page is a reason to act today — it is a reason to know your own position before the open. The Sunday setup note follows with the week ahead.

Question for you: on a closed day like today, do you look at your own numbers first or the headlines first?
